Yes, their support site leaves a lot to be desired. I think though that the ratings were made by actual users. Perhaps the average Dell customer has less complex problems than maybe you do. If it helps, they also note that the #1 issue is "blue screen of death" to which most tech supporters will say, "let's reinstall the operating system." That seems to be a solid answer, huh? Geez.

I agree with your service tag point. When I have had trouble with my old Powerbook (custom built, so to speak) I only had to enter my ID and it told me exactly what was in my book and then gave me only options for those parts. No guessing.

I didn't even honestly know HP had customer support. I think if I worked for them I would just recommend people buy a new "SOHO computer."

Dell is the top? I *hate* their support site. Why is it when one puts a service tag in (which is unique to the custom machine that they built) it gives a choice for drivers for multiple video cards? Why do we have to figure it out? They should only give us the choice of the one we purchased in the computer.

Cisco's site is nice - a wealth of information for what you need once you find it. Sometimes it's hard to get to where you need to go.

I haven't personally dealt with any of the other three. I do know a coworker hates HP's site, at least on the server end of it (we have a lot of HP blades).

I like remember Windows 2000 as being the good half of XP (the bad half being Win ME). It was rock solid, although it didn't have all the bells and whistles for general PC users.

I am thinking that would wear the battery out rather quickly. Would he have to use auto batteries with converters in order to provide AC current?

Hmmm, with today's multi core cpu's. How about setting processor affinity. That is set core 0 to play iTunes and core 1 for amplified radio system. Problem solved! Now if you don't how to do this, open the window and throw that MAC out!
